Tahoe LOVES Frisbee Now

Tahoe LOVES Frisbee Now…

It has been a bit since my last post. As a quick update my nausea is a good bit stronger for the first week, but the second week after chemo is still pretty good. I have one more treatment before the wedding and then we are off to Tahoe. It turns out that my PET scan will not happen before we leave for the wedding; it will happen the monday after we return along with a breathing exam to see what the ABVD is doing to my lungs. Not getting my hopes up, but the PET scan will determine whether I will need two more months of chemo or not.

It is becoming apparent that my biggest source of nausea is thinking about treatment. I get more nauseous going to chemo than I do the rest of the week. Not that the rest of the week is a cake walk, but drugs have proven to be handy. I have a new routine for chemo which involves wearing a button down shirt so I can avoid the nurses touching me with their extra smelly, extra sterile gloves designed for putting the IV lead into my port. Because the catheter from the port leads directly into my heart they have to use packaged gloves that specially packaged to be sterile. I just try to limit them touching me to avoid smell transfers…does not work perfectly, but it helps just a bit.

…And Can’t Stop ‘Till She Looks Like This

This week we have done some evaluation of things for a project to move my wireless router and server into the basement to keep it somewhere much cooler come summer. I also plan to run a hard line to the studio so the TV can get a better internet connection for movie watching. I know it is a first world problem solving project, but it is keeping me busy planning. Hopefully we can get it set up before Paul comes to town for my bachelor party.

Also relating to the wedding, we went back to Nordstrom to do a final review of my suit tailoring for the wedding. I brought Jen along to make sure that she approved, and she was VERY satisfied with how I looked. With one extremely small touch up the suit will be 100% ready by friday. I know Nordstrom has some nicer things, but I have to say that the people there at least make it much less painful to part with your money. They were very professional and made sure I didn’t walk out of there looking like a schlub. As I mentioned, Jen definitely agreed with their recommendations, and the sales person seemed genuinely excited to meet Jen and make sure she fully approved which was a very nice touch.

Since I have come down with this cancer thing I have noticed more and more of my friends doing fundraisers for cancer. A project manager in the Vancouver BC office I spent 5 weeks and a number of the other employees up there reached out to express their sympathies and encouragement when all this came to light. James Hawkins, the project manager friend of mine, later reached out to see if he could share a bit of my story for his fundraising efforts. If anyone wants to help a good cause, he is doing The Ride to Conquer Cancer for the BC Cancer Foundation. He is very close to his $2,500 goal and could use just a little more help.  If anyone is interested, he said some nice thing on his fundraising page here http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Vancouver2013?px=3207083&pg=personal&fr_id=1441.

Thanks again to all for the support. It is great to know how many friends and family are rooting for me across the country.

Thanks for posting! I like knowing what’s going on in your life. While the dogs are cute, I found the router speak the most interesting. Love you and can’t wait to celebrate you two.
